I miss watching dozens of tiny frogs all day. If you also suffer from this problem, read this (and watch the embedded video)! It’s about the annual migration of western toads.
Since I haven’t written a “what’s in a scientific name” post in a while, here‘s a good explanation of how scientific classifcation and nomenclature works, with some examples of exciting or amusing names.
Finally, a video that amused me: a fly’s-eye view animation with a funny/nerdy twist to the inevitable ending. It tracks the fly’s movements in a very realistic way, down to the repeated banging against a window trying to get out of the house. (Of course, flies have compound eyes, so there really should be a few hundred of these videos playing simultaneously for a proper fly’s-eye effect.)
