An excellent article on the taxonomy crisis from the Globe and Mail.
I’m afraid I don’t have much commentary to offer on it; it pretty much sums up the state of things…although it doesn’t get into the Great Barcoding Debate, probably wisely so.
Call me a cynic, but I suspect once the International Year of Biodiversity is over, we’ll stop hearing about this issue in the news.
But on a cheerier note, here’s another article about the new bee species mentioned in the Globe piece. Not only am I happy that an entomology monograph made the national news; I’m thrilled at the quality of the article: much better than has been the norm at CBC recently. They even got the nomenclature right!
