And I can’t resist the temptation to start it with lolspeak. Sorry.
I’m a Canadian graduate student in evolutionary biology, a closet Latin student, an unabashed nerd, a bit of a hermit, and a disliker of labels.
This blog is named after one of my favourite animal genera, Heliconius, which is in turn named after Mount Helicon, the traditional home of the nine Muses in Greek mythology. My posts here will tiptoe around the edges of the intersection of culture and biology. I’m not really interested in, or patient enough for, culture wars-type arguments, but I am an evolutionary biologist, so I might occasionally get carried away. Other possible topics will include feminism, science fiction, environmentalism, sporadic actual research blogging, and a variety of nerdy things like random* Latin translations. Yes, I expect my readership to stay at zero.
*That is, the Internet’s definition of random.
